Review of DC Super Hero Girls: Hero of the Year (2016) by Dino C — 22 Oct 2016
I liked the movie for what it is. Its a simple cartoon movie that stars majority of the female heros and villains and even some male heroes. It is aimed at kids and such the movie is pretty simple. I liked the portrayal of the characters being in their younger years when they are still girls in school but at the same time have strange stories and super powers. So you get some typical cute cartoonish humor about where they are from or what super powers they have. Nothing thats deep or insanely thought out but thats not what this movie is supposed to be either.
One thing most people might not pick up on especially the younger kids is the fact that Harley Quin and Poison Ivy being class partners and hanging out together outside of class is not something that is random. These 2 are/were? a couple in the comics. Poison Ivy helped Harley alot when she decided to ditch the Joker. So I was really pleasantly surprised when they decided to put that into the movie in some fashion.
So while the movie isnt amazing and the story is nothing special the movie does have good quality animation for the style of movie and the characters are fun to watch. I do wish they added more of Big Barda in the movie as she made me chuckle with the joke about practicing her evil laugh while living on apocalypse even though the joke was a dud inside the movie.
I dont know if these movies and cartoons are meant for people to sit down and watch with all their might BUT as background noise while surfing the net and or playing games I found the movie pretty enjoyable.
