Review of Dazed and Confused (1993) by Dustin C — 01 Apr 2013
The best thing about this is that every you watch it, it's like a reunion with your old friends. A movie without a story. If you can't find something to like about Dazed & Confused, there's seriously something wrong with you.
It certainly beats the hell out of Superbad. I've been told no film demonstrates being a teen in the 70's better than this. Great characters & inspired direction by Mr. Linklater. And the sets are great especially the school.
So many great lines too. Adam Goldbergs character was my favorite. The whole fight with him & that Clint guy was hilarious. "I came here to do 2 things: drink some beer & kick some ass. Looks like we're almost out of beer.
" I didn't care for Jeremy London though & I felt the soundtrack could've been far better. Too much Foghat & Aerosmith. I would've liked some Beatles, Pink Floyd & Led Zeppelin.
After all, look at the title of the film. If a movie can have both Ben Affleck (played a great asshole) & Matthew McConaughey in it & be enjoyable, that's pretty impressive though. And it really impresses me that Linklater can make this & then something completely different like Before Sunset & A Scanner Darkly.
He's quite talented.
