Review of Dazed and Confused (1993) by Alex S — 01 Mar 2014
Dazed and Confused is a hang out movie, plain and simple. Not much of a plot, no big theme or purpose, just kids hanging out on the last day of high school circa 1976, getting into minor trouble here and there.
I have to assume it continues to leave an impression because of its cast, including Matthew McConaughey's debut performance and one of Ben Affleck's first, because there's really not a whole lot else to it.
The constant freshman bullying really rubbed me the wrong way and stood out as unnecessarily cruel, but beyond that it's likeable enough, although its widespread critical acclaim puzzles me.
