Review of Dazed and Confused (1993) by Erik T — 15 Feb 2016
This phenomenal trip back to the 70's is a 1 hour and 42 minute nostalgic joyride. Directed by Richard Linklater in 1993, this movie encapsulates the lives of teenagers on the last day of school in May of 1976. Dazed and Confused shows the events that take place right after the last day of school. It starts out with the hazing of different freshmen and then progresses into a big party where several of the main characters have a real coming of age experience. The plot is all about people coming together, enjoying the times, and accepting the inevitability of growing up.
While the plot is anything but easy to find, the other aspects easily make up for this shortcoming. The small details in the movie are outstanding. Period correct cars, period correct music, and period correct activities. The multiple different story lines give the movie depth, and makes it very interesting to watch. This movie is perfect for sitting down with a friend and feeling nostalgic, or just experiencing a different time. The way the film was recorded, you don't feel like you're watching a movie, you feel as if you are right there, experiencing everything with the characters. The one disclaimer that I have to include with this movie is that it is definitely not appropriate for anyone who isn't mature, as it contains, alcohol, tobacco, and drug usage and strong language.
All of that aside, this movie is a phenomenal piece and most certainly worth the time and money that you would spend watching it. It's a great movie for the young and rebellious to the older and more nostalgic.
This movie has easily become one of my favorites and I would certainly recommend it!
