Review of Dazed and Confused (1993) by Ethan P — 18 Oct 2018
Dazed and Confused has a rebellious, fun energy and a few strong characters, but it lacks any real structure. There's almost no plot and it relies on the personalities of its characters and entertaining side stories to move it along.
It reminded me a lot of American Graffiti, a simple, unstructured portrait of a day back in high school. I think a lot of the language and actions portrayed in the film wouldn't be allowed today, spanking women and calling each other panzees, but it is very reflective of the time period.
I thought it was also very odd that the seniors were so focused on trapping and spanking the younger boys. It was also fun to see Matthew McConaughey's debut, you can see how his easy charm made him a star.
