Review of Dazed and Confused (1993) by Asif K — 23 May 2011

Like George Lucas' American Graffiti, Richard Linklater's Dazed and Confused is an affectionate look at the youth culture of a bygone era. While Lucas took aim at the conservative 1950's, Linklater jumps ahead a generation to the bicentennial year of 1976 to celebrate the joys of beer blasts, pot smoking and Frampton Comes Alive. Set on the last day of the academic year, the film follows the random activities of a sprawling group of Texas high schoolers as they celebrate the arrival of summer, their paths variously intersecting at a freshmen hazing, a local pool parlor and finally at a keg party.

I saw this movie a few days back and I really liked it, it first of all is one of the best films based on the 70's era high school life. you just love it. movie is funny and well made. you see all the good old fashioned things they do and you just wish you were there, the are so full of life and joyous and don't care what is going on around them just busy in their own life. all the beers and drugs and stoning and bars and girls and the ragging and what not. movie is enjoyable in a strange way.

Direction and writing of this movie is good. cinematography and other technical things are good. acting I must say is a let down a little bit, I mean you don't notice their acting that much because first there are so many characters and it is just a high school movie showing different type of students in it. cast is so huge, you will recognize them easily, some of them have made them big time here now. they look good and funny in those costumes and get ups. cast include Jason London, Wiley Wiggins, Rory Cochrane, Milla Jovovich, Joey Lauren Adams , Marissa Ribisi , Adam Goldberg , Anthony Rapp , Sasha Jenson , Parker Posey , Matthew McConaughey , Ben Affleck , Michelle Burke , Cole Hauser , Jason Smith and who not. this movie is very interesting to watch it is not bad at all. they show just a night partying for the rest of the part and you will love it. story is very simple. Recommended.
