Review of Dazed and Confused (1993) by John S — 22 Aug 2011
It feels like a more focused and funner version of "Slacker" that has many remarkable abilities that involve the viewer in such a powerful way. It makes you believe that every single character is the coolest guy ever captured on film and that the 70's was the most awesomest time to live.
It's nearly invisible plot is a step beyond Slacker's in the way that it's the story (without there actually being a narrative plot) of a culture and a generation that is savoring its last moments until transitioning into the next phase of life.
It's almost like a coming-of-generation film that manages to cross boundaries, making me feel for their generation despite being two full generations ahead of them. It's addictive and enthralling to watch, after the film ended I had to fight the urge to drink, party, and smoke weed.
In other words, Dazed and Confused is just delicious good clean fun. Or should I say, good filthy fun.
