Review of Days of Heaven (1978) by Carl M — 07 Feb 2009
A wonderful picture by Terrence Malick, reminiscent of Kubrick's Barry Lyndon; the beautiful cinematography, the slow-as-molasses pacing, and story of survival and opportunism. Some might not appreciate the fragmented story and low-payoff ending, but the structure simply underlines the fleeting nature of day-to-day life.
You have to appreciate the broad strokes with which Malick paints rural America in the early 1900s.
