Review of Days of Heaven (1978) by Ethan Y — 17 Aug 2009
One of the most sumptuously beautiful film ever made. Each singular image invokes a indescribable feeling of wonder in the pit of your stomach. Mallick's decision to shoot many of the scenes during the 25 minute period after the sun goes down, but before it gets dark give the film a look that is completely its own.
However, the actual story is a bit labored and oftentimes feels melodramatic, making the film too soft and impressionistic for its own good. Overall though, if you have any interest in cinema whatsoever, Days of Heaven is a film that must be seen.
