Review of Days of Heaven (1978) by Chris Z — 26 Mar 2010
A classic story, handled quite well by Terrence Malick. The cinematography is entirely due its Academy Award. I didn't really get into the story that deeply, but the visuals are stunning, some of the most beautiful landscapes I've ever seen captured on film. The kind of brilliance reminiscent of Lawrence of Arabia, or Patton, except here it is the wide open plains of America and all of its glorious natural light.
With the exception of moderate EE (I wish I could break the fingers of ever video engineer who continues to think that "sharpness" is a good thing...) the Criterion BD presentation is simply marvelous.
