Review of Days of Heaven (1978) by Grant M — 08 Jul 2008
Malick creates what can only be described as visual poetry. Almost every shot has a composition, colour, and mood that is worthy of framing. Like Badlands before it, Malick never forces his message or advances his plot through dialogue but does so visually.
Perhaps some emotion and connection to the characters is lost because of this. However, the picture's astounding visual beauty as well as Ennio Morricone's, serene and haunting score ensures Days of Heaven's status as a classic.
