Another great film to recommend; This film was next in line for Best Forieign film of 06. Next to Pans and Lives of Other People..

It doesn't really matter if Days Of Glory didn't win an Oscar. The movie, nominated for Best Foreign Language Film, has already earned a much higher honor: It has changed the course of history in France.

Like Michael Haneke's film Cache, this story adds another piece to the puzzle of hidden French history . It's required viewing for anyone hoping to understand the origins of the race riots of the last few years in Paris.

French actor Jamel Debbouze (Angle A, 5th Element) produced this film base on the fact the story needed to be told.

Days Of Glory is an amazing document, part war film, part love story, part history lesson. (What's not in the film is the fact that the African soldiers were not permitted to be present at the liberation of Paris -- which is why you don't see any of them in the famed pictures of soldiers marching under the Arc de Triumph.).

The movie tells the story of the pensions of the African soldiers were frozen at the 1959 level after the decolonization of Africa in the '60s. That's where the movie ends.

As for the power of film, that injustice was on the books for 47 years -- until Days Of Glory was screened for President Jacques Chirac, who then reinstated the pensions of these men. Yes!!

A must see, On DVD at all the mainstream outlets.. Best snack to eat while watching this film is a box of Reeses Mini's - Vmedia.
