Review of Daylight (1996) by Adam W — 20 Nov 2010
Not, as another reviewer has done, to be confused with Sunshine. The two disaster movies couldn't be further apart. However this utter hokum is enjoyable because of how effortlessly likable Stallone was at the time, and some of the action scenes are so overdone they achieve a weird level of light comedy.
Bad action movies are much more entertaining than bad comedies or bad romances. Having said that there is a really suspenseful sequence where Stallone has to climb through some massive fans before they come back on and slice him up (each equipped with one of those little red countdown timers).
You can figure out which of the characters are going to die by simply dividing them by race and gender and following what you know about the conventions of '90s action movies, and the suspense brought in via the woman who wants to knock the tunnel down because of the resulting traffic problem is laughably nonsensical.
