Review of Day Zero (2007) by Lawrence S — 12 Jan 2008
Meh, is a good word to describe this movie in one word. the initial idea of this movie was a good and interesting one. And I truthfully I was excited to watch it. But from the minute it started, I was already asking questions, like why in the first place they reinstated the draft?there was no explanation whatsoever.
The script is where it hurts the most. the lines they were acting could not get any shallower or meaningless, not to mention some bad acting here and there. I honestly could not care less about each character.
for all I care they can all go to iraq or wherever and die, and I dont think I would miss them one bit. Especially Jon Bernthal's(i just dont like seeing his face, and how can I care for someone I dont like seeing.
Ok call me biased) character who preaches about freedom, being a true man, etc. etc...like I give a damn. I tend to think having 3 characters to explore is asking a bit much, if they had just toned down the film to just 2 characters (Chris Klein and Elijah Wood only), I think it would attract greater symphaty, since trying to care about 2 people is easier than caring for 3.
And that sudden 'turn' for Elijah's character in the end is too far-fetched for it to be true, and again I couldn't care less then. Skip this movie in theaters, go watch it on hbo or cinemax or some other tv channel.
