Review of Day Zero (2007) by Dan C — 12 Apr 2008
Wow. I really hope the US never reinstates the draft for all you Americans. Freedom to choose seemed to be a major theme in this film, however with the draft that freedom to choose is violently stripped away. It seems ironic to have no freedom to choose whether you want to fight for "freedom". And in reality the proposed war in this film doesn't have much to do with freedom anyways.
Choose your own battles, don't let someone else choose them for you! We see one character plagued by this exact plight! What kind of freedom is that to constantly be condemned by such futile circumstances? There will always be people willing to fight, so let those who want to fight, fight! And those who don't want to, don't! With any luck we'll eventually only be left with those who don't want to fight...on both sides! Then the real freedom can begin, right?
Well, if the draft really ever is reinstated, those who don't wish to fight are more than welcome to come stay at my place north of the border.
All in all, good movie to watch. Shows three stereotypical perspectives in regards to the draft that are interesting and at times a little shocking/enlightening.
Watch it.
