Review of Day Watch (2006) by Thérèse A — 06 May 2008
I saw the previews for this movie totally randomly and I thought: "A whole movie based around finding a piece of chalk... crazy!" then I saw the special effects and I just had to own it. Now I do.
I finally watched it and I didn't know how to react.
1. My first Russian movie experience: Not bad at all. Great special effects, but the music like in French movies, defaults at the culminating points of actions. Though, the soundtrack wasn't bad at all either.
2. After watching it, I think I came to a new understanding of the phrase: "everyone has their own sh*t to deal with". Which was an interesting thing to pick from a movie...
3. The ending w/ the light guy and the dark guy betting on whether or not Anton would remember the girl... was a bit of a deja vu and I didn't think it was necessary.
4. Now I'm learning there was a first one. "Night Watch" maybe if I'd seen that, I wouldn't have been lost at times, and would've realized that the whole movie was going to be in Russian (not that I mind I mean I watch 3hrs films in Hindi so...) and been better prepared for it.
Anyways, someone said it was provoking and fast-paced, I got to agree. At times it was a bit too fast-paced and the story got lost for a minute though. I was not disappointed for one minute watching the movie, it was fun constantly trying to figure out what would happen next and like I said, I want those powers, seriously. Overall I'd say good movie.
I'm going to go watch it again, and I'm sure I'll like it even more. :).
