Review of Day Watch (2006) by Erik G — 21 Apr 2009
Some sequels are better than the original (Toy Story 2, Godfather 2, Empire Strikes Back); however, this and Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan are the only examples I can think of where the sequel was vastly better than the original.
The quality is ramped up through the course of the film from "hey, this is a little better" to "whoa." The filmmakers seemed to figured out how far their material could go and went there.
(Supposedly this is the second in the trilogy, but if they figure out how to pull off a third, I will be mightily impressed.
