Review of Day Watch (2006) by Alex V — 10 Nov 2009
4.3/10 --.
Remember "Night Watch," the unbelievably convoluted horror-fantasy flick? Well, if its sequel "Day Watch," achieves anything, it's that you can almost tell what's going on. Not exactly what's going on, of course. There needs to be that extra layer of incomprehensibility to provide, you know, the mysticism aspect. It goes without saying, if you haven t already seen it's predecessor (and remember what happened in it), "Day Watch" isn't going to do you any favours filling you in, which is understandable because filling you in would take a serious amount of time and effort. So let's go ahead and skip that.
Basically, "Daywatch," for all its narrative flaws, has an abundance of ideas. Ideas are great. To have ideas is commendable. There are so many movies out there devoid of original thought, that when a complete mess like this comes around, at least it's a colourful mess, and at least it's a mess we haven't seen before.
