Review of Day of the Woman (1978) by Brandon S — 23 Oct 2009
Jennifer is one of the best horror/revenge movie heroine's of all time, ranked up there with the chick from the Decent. I Spit on Your Grave, also known as Day of the Woman, is a rape horror/revenge movie that really pushes some huge boundaries. Jennifer is a writer that comes out from New York to get some peace and quiet. Things go awry though when Jennifer, who is sunbathing in her canoe, is abducted by four hicks and gang-raped. The movie is really graphic here where it shows each rape in full, making this very hard to watch. This movie was initially lashed out at hugely by the critics, due to the very graphic and violent images shown. It was re-released in 1980 with Camille Keaton (Grand-Niece of Buster Keaton) to better reviews, yet the movie was released again with no editing or censoring. I found this movie to be very entertaining and very tame compared to some of the movies and exploitation films that are out there now. Plenty of blood and good revenge gives this movie a 6/10 on my scareometer.
Revenge is a dish best served in a bathtub.
