Review of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) by Jaret M — 01 Jan 2015
An explosive and thoughtful sequel anchored by two incredible motion-capture performances from Andy Serkis and Toby Kebbell. Complex in theme, the film never takes the easy path and manages to make all characters sympathetic, even when you disagree with them.
Even the primary antagonist feels fully justified. You simply could not ask for more from a summer blockbuster. If the APES franchise continues to treat its material with such high stakes care, we're all in for many more years of quality storytelling.
