Review of Dawn of the Dead (2004) by Hayden W — 07 Jul 2013
I cant talk about Snyder's Dawn of the Dead without mentioning those fast zombies. My problem is that slow zombies allow for tension to be built slowly amid a thick uneasy atmosphere. Fast zombie's inevitably lead to lots of running around, 'boo' moments and lots of things getting smashed.
Would Halloween be as scary as it is if Michael Myers spent 90 minutes running and leaping around the place? The answer is an unequivocal no. The zombie baby is ludicrous and only served to put me in mind of A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 5.
On top of all this the 'Rock' soundtrack just made this feel like something MTV would produce. This has none of the savvy of Romero's films and really it seems content to be horror by the numbers.
