Review of David Brent: Life on the Road (2016) by James C — 03 Sep 2016
Ricky Gervais is a talented all-rounder. In this big-screen outing for his creation, David Brent, he does set up what could be an amusing premise. And it is reasonably funny for the first twenty minutes. However, as the film rolls on it plays out like a joke that doesn't know when to leave the room. There were opportunities for Gervais to develop his character but , sadly, he chose to remain in one-dimension. Hence the feeling that this would have worked better as a TV piece lasting no more than an hour.
Sorry, but this didn't really work for me. I was also left to ponder where Ricky Gervais and David Brent part company and if indeed they do!
