Review of David Brent: Life on the Road (2016) by Dave L — 23 Aug 2016
An absolutely brilliant film that is as hilarious as it is heartwarming and as enjoyable as it is tragic. Gervais brings David Brent back with dignity (even if the character still has none) and respect for his story and his audience.
As a Gervais fan, I may be a little biased, but this is an almost perfect movie where story never takes a side-line to the jokes (which are cringey-er than ever).
This, in every sense of the word, is a love-letter to the fans of the character who've been wondering if Brent made it okay out in the big wide world after being made redundant from Wernam Hogg and want to see him redeem himself once and for all. A welcome, and somewhat essential part and conclusion to what could be described as the David Brent Saga.
Definitely worth a watch in the theatre to distinguish this as a 'movie' and not just a feature-length TV special.
