Review of Das Boot (1981) by Brad G — 29 Apr 2008

Not quite as horrifyingly disappointing as "The Last Picture Show," but still this is one of the most overrated films I've seen. I saw the "short" 2 1/2 hour version, but apparently the 3 1/2 hour director's cut addresses some of my concerns about the lack of character development which leads to a complete lack of empathy with the "heroes" and thus boredeom.

It does have very nice action sequences devoid of the CG nonsense of today's movies, but ultimately I was just relieved when the end credits finally rolled.
