Review of Das Boot (1981) by Tom S — 01 Jun 2013
It's five hours long. But some of the most engaging five hours in cinematic history, from the decadent party scene to the conclusion's despair. The film's greatest triumph is that it captures the tedium of dry spells and action in war - it actually may spend too much time in the "pleasure cruise" segment, but one of the pressure scenes continues for almost an hour, and the audience's dread equals the crew's.
