Review of Das Boot (1981) by J K — 24 Jul 2010
The best and most realistic WW2 submarine movie ever made. Intense, gritty and emotionally draining. Director Wolfgang Peterson's ability to not only make the audience truly feel like they're on that German sub, but also make you feel true emotion for the German soldiers who sacrifice everything for their country, even when that country is run by the Nazis, is what makes this film remarkable.
Worth watching just for the acting itself. Jurgen Prochnow is superb as is his supporting cast that included Herbery Gronemeyer, Kalus Wennemann and Hubertus Bengsch. Worth multiple viewings.
