Review of Darkness Visible (2019) by Erikchristian — 19 Feb 2019
“Darkness Visible” is a thrilling story in a mysterious setting of Kolkata, India. The main character (Ronnie) leaves London for Kolkata where he finds out his mother had been hit by a car and sent to the hospital.
While visiting his mother in the hospital, he steps out for a moment, and when he returns, he finds the hospital bed empty and the window wide open. He looks out the window and finds a woman in a purple robe and an ominous symbol written in his mother’s own blood.
More murders emerge in the area, and all have the same symbol with different numbers, tensions rise as police attempt to diminish the findings. Ronnie's own inner-darkness comes to light as all roads lead to the feared witch of Kolkata's insane asylum.
This movie combines some of the best aspects from the horror and mystery genres and doesn’t rely on jump scares for engagement, rather uses suspenseful conflict and ominous tension to keep the audience on edge.
I really enjoyed watching this movie and recommend it to anyone who likes a good thriller.
