Review of Darkness Falls (2003) by Jeff B — 21 Aug 2010
An interesting concept that was handed to the wrong filmmakers. Darkness Falls proves that even A-List movies can be given to B-Listers, and even with a good budget, can be turned to absolute shit. The acting is almost non-existent, with the most cliche' instances and characters known in horror movies. While the antagonist was quite interesting, and actually had a good look to her, she was not used well in any way, shape, or form.
Every single horror scene was disjointed and predictable. It had no sense of suspense what-so-ever, and the viewer is more than likely to look at the clock, rather than the movie. The entire thing was over before it knew it, but it decided to continue with poorly thought-up twists and turns, as well as a half-baked way of finishing the so-called "climax".
It's a real shame, too. This movie had a lot of potential that it decided to whizz down its leg. In the hands of a competent studio, I am absolutely sure this movie could have knocked some socks off. The idea is not really original by any means, but it had an edge that could have been used. "Disappointing" does not even begin to describe this box office dud.
