Review of Darkman (1990) by Drew O — 25 Jan 2011
I watched this movie because of director Sam Raimi, who impressed me with his Evil Dead trilogy as well as the Spider-Man trilogy. I figured that since he did so well with Spider-Man (the first two, at least) then this movie should be good, as it's also somewhat of a superhero movie. What I saw was rather disappointing. I wasn't too impressed by Liam Neeson's performance, something that suprised me, and I just couldn't get into the film. It moved along a bit too quickly and didn't ever seem to find its pace.
I do believe that Raimi had a truly good film in his hands, but I don't feel that he handled it as well as he could of. That doesn't mean that I think Raimi did bad as director. I also don't think that this is a bad film, rather a misexecuted (is that a word?) one. If Raimi had a chance to take this film and give it a remake, I'm sure that he will handle it better.
