Review of Darkman (1990) by Elise H — 29 Mar 2009
Considering the fact that it was directed by Sam Raimi, you can't help but tell that this movie is going to have the cheese factor but it's good cheese! Liam Neeson is Dr. Peyton Westlake, a man who is trying to make synthetic skin with not much luck.
His girlfriend also happens to have come across some documents at work that prove that her boss has been bribing crime boss Robert Durant. Durant shows up at Peyton's lab only to trash it, kill his assistant and almost kill Peyton as well.
What results is a heavily scarred Peyton with uncontrollable rage. He uses the synthetic skin that can only last 99 minutes to look like any man he wants and then decides to take revenge on the people who hurt him.
You can really tell that this flick was screaming Sam Raimi all over it and Darkman is an interesting character. A lot of people may hate the movie because of how it is shot, dialogue, character interaction, etc but all of it is intended in this action/superhero flick.
Go in expecting nothing more. Fun movie.
