Review of Darkest Hour (2017) by Alex B — 27 Dec 2017
I saw this film with my parents earlier today. I was really impressed within Gary Oldman's acting ability. That said, Wright relies on some serious clichés to advance scenes. The moment with the young girl saying "never" in the metro was intended to be a tearjerker moment. I laughed; it was lame, as was the cheesy violin playing in tense moments. The whole two minute scene in Calais was also unnecessary. I didn't find the rapport between Oldman and James to be interesting.
I am no expert on WWII history in England but this movie would elicit a two star rating if the film did not accurately depict the events that truly occurred. I expected more.
