Review of Darkest Hour (2017) by Jim L — 03 Apr 2018
Strong performance by Gary Oldman, however, the film is far too concerned with giving him ample time to exhibit his Oscar worthy performance and not enough time developing other characters. While the limited scenes with King George (played by the wonderful Ben Mendelsohn), and the British citizens on the tube are interesting, too much of the film relies on monologues.
For me, it falls to similar issues in prestige projects of actors shooting for Oscar gold, such as Daniel Day Lewis's Lincoln.
