Review of Darkest Hour (2017) by Martin D — 08 May 2018

Actors playing Churchill is almost as coveted as actors playing Hamlet. Darkest Hour is a movie that is a snapshot of history, not exactly accurate, but near enough to make the point that Churchill was indeed the right man at the right time for the right job.

Handed a poison chalice, a man with many flaws, faced with great odds, galvanised a divided country that was on militarily on its knees. Like Churchill himself the movie may not be perfect and the acting maybe not as good as it thinks it is, but May 1940, without doubt a defining moment in history, is a story worth telling, and this movie tells it well.
