Review of Darkest Hour (2017) by Chris H — 12 Jan 2018
One of the best films I have seen in the last ten years or more. Oldman isn't getting all the awards for nothing - at times it's like looking and listening to Churchill himself.. almost un-nerviing at times it's that good.
I've seen dozens of people play this role, some good, some not so good, this.. this is just THE BEST.
The supporting cast are just as brilliant, the two ladies do fantastic jobs.. Lily James is not only a look alike for Elizabeth Layton, she just sucks you in with her performance.
Churchill may not have been perfect and the movie does nothing to portray him as such, but at a time when we are looking for leaders who will face the evils of racism and bigotry head on, this film takes us back to a time where one man stood up, at times almost alone, and stood firm in the belief that, 'all that is needed for evil to prevail, is for good men to do nothing' - Thank God Churchill did 'something' .
