Review of Darkest Hour (2017) by Frank S — 02 Dec 2017
Come on! Despite the stellar performance by Gary Oldman, the movie is not compelling. It is poorly paced and implies that Churchill spent many hours in silence and solitude in darkened rooms. Besides his governmental posts he was a great writer, an accomplished painter, bricklayer and master of many skills.
That does not show in the film despite Oldman's remarkable transformation. The film should have been as dynamic as it's subject. At best it is anemic and tepid, destroying the power of Oldman's great work.
