Saw the brilliant film The Darkest Hour. Wow! That was some performance by Gary Oldman! Could anyone else possibly get the Oscar?

I couldn't recommend this film more highly.

Here were my very personal feelings:

My parents - more my Mum than my Dad - described aspects of life during the war.

I'm far from alone in feeling nostalgic towards events and places from my childhood. Anyone else who moved far from home will understand that those nostalgic feelings are enhanced.

But the feelings that welled inside of me seeing the early, beautifully filmed street scenes, took me by surprise.

I saw the things my parents had described to me, but through their eyes and experiences. And somehow, that was more deeply personal than if those experiences had been my own.

The film itself contains aspects of history that were kept from the people living through those times. Most harrowing, and imparting a different view of Churchill to that we've long understood as the essence of the man.

Again. Go see it!
