Review of Dark Victory (1939) by Omar L — 26 Aug 2018
Much has been said about how 1939 was THE year of Hollywood, what with Gone With the Wind AND The Wizard of Oz coming out. Analyzing Dark Victory through the lens of the period it was released in takes away from the film as it occurs in a vacuum: a thoroughly simple and enjoyable melodrama with mid-Atlantic accented acting that really is just a window to the young fresh faces of Bette Davis, Humphrey Bogart, and Ronald Reagan (playing what can only be described as the first "gay best friend").
