Review of Dark Star (1974) by Rob E — 24 Jul 2008
John Carpenter's finest film by a country mile. What stays in my mind is the fact that 3 of friends & myself chanced upon this movie by sheer ,err, chance. We came back from our 'local boozer' (somewhere thhat serves' alchol jn vast amounts) and just switched on the TV.
We were totallty mesmerired by the first 15 minutes & could not stop grinning and laughing. The goddam beach ball, what a simpliistic & yet fantastic idea. The lift squence with the ball & Dan O'Bannon.
..sheer magic. Shall we blow it up....ask the bomb. Let their be light....Shame about John Carpenter though, he never really achieved those heady heights I had hoped for.Just my fucking opinion for what's it's worth.
