Review of Dark Star (1974) by James H — 07 Nov 2010
John Carpenter's realistically interesting take on Sci-Fi. In the 21st Century the human race has conquered space. In order to colonise remote star systems the ship, Dark Star, is sent to locate and destroy any unstable planets which stand n the way of this goal.
After 20 years on this mission, the ship has seen better days and the crew find they have spare time on their hands between destroying planets. Therefore finding lots of time in which to look after the Ship's pet alien, shooting practice with the emergency weapons and working on sun tans.
Instead of repairing 20 year's of wear and tear on the ship. Factor in artifically intelligent bombs and the consequences of failing to maintain the ship and you've got an explosive finale.
