For the past decade Burton has definitely given up on traditional film making and opted for full reconvention to CGI. his Alice in wonderland was cold as hell and lifeless, his Dark shadows remain an object equally cold and drowned into a see of over the top special effects. Johnny Depp is as classy as ever but has little material to plays with. Pfeiffer and Bonham Carter have enough acting chops to burn the screen of anything they work on but the newcomers such as Moretz lack any charm. Eva Green has something of a femme fatale that she has been using to death since 300: rise of an empire and other Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

Burton seems to have lost his magic and the fairy tale touch so immensely unique he used to have in Edward Scissorhands or even Big Fish. Here and there some shots are marvelously crafted and once or twice he hits a funny joke but overall this Dark Shadow seems lifeless and very distant from the man who once made us dream about dark wicked fantasies and impossible love stories between true eccentric people.
