Review of Dark Rising (2007) by Kevin R — 25 Feb 2010
There's nothing pornographic about it. Sorry dude.
Jason Parks has recently been dumped by his high school sweetheart, Jasmine. He is now in college and every day he dreams of reuniting with his ex-girlfriend. He sees an upcoming camping trip as an opportunity to reunite with his lost love. Jasmine is now dating a girl and sees the camping trip as a way to be alone with her girlfriend. One of the campers has recently obtained a book about witchcraft and during the first night she reads an incantation that leads to demons flooding the woods. The camping trip turns from a love saga to a blood bath.
"If you put a telephone in her hand and a 900 number across her ass, we'd make millions.".
Andrew Cymek, director of The Pretender and the upcoming Medium Raw: Night of the Wolf, delivers Dark Rising. The storyline for this picture is awful. The script isn't awful and the comedic content is uneven but the horror content is dreadful. The acting is mediocre and the cast includes Landy Cannon, Jason Reso, Brigitte Kingsley (wow), and Vanessa James.
"Who is this bitch and why aren't you fantasizing about me?".
Dark Rising is a film I caught while flicking through the channels this morning. The plot for this movie sounded interesting, campers that are plagued by demons after a séance, what's not to like? However, this film felt like a cross between soft porn, despite having limited nudity, and The Blair Witch. Overall, I strongly recommend skipping this movie.
"I'm a man, Renee.".
"Since when?".
"It's a new thing.".
Grade: F+.
