Dark Places has a good plot line full of mystery and suspense but ultimately has a very unfulfilling conclusion. Just like Gone Girl, another Gillian Flynn book, this film has a lot of twists and turns and shocking revelations.
Charlize Theron is great in her role but the rest of the characters are fairly forgettable. It was an interesting story to follow, with a few big moments and it all seemed like it was going to come to a huge, amazing finale, but it fell short.
That big let down at the end kind of ruined the movie for me. If you enjoyed Gone Girl, you can expect a similar tone and pace but this is not near as good. It is however better then most Mystery/suspense films out now so don't be afraid to check this one out.
