Review of Dark Passage (1947) by Ryan J — 23 Jul 2007
Extraordinarily innovative for its time. The entire first half of the film is almost exclusively a POV shot, and the next twenty minutes Bogart spends in gauze. You don't see his face until the last 30 min of the film! The story itself, admittedly, may be tried, even for '47, but it's technique is so invigorating, it almost ackowledges the sacrifice.
It's not THE BIG SLEEP, or even THE MALTESE FALCON, but it's pretty goddamn great. See it if you like film-noir or are at all interested the evolution of certain film techniques/gimmicks.
