Review of Dark Passage (1947) by Scott S — 18 Jul 2009
Dark Passage (1947) -- [6.5] -- Humphrey Bogart escapes from prison to clear his name and find his wife's killer. Who better to help him than Lauren Bacall? This movie doesn't rely on their chemistry as much as some of their more popular pairings, but it's a good flick nonetheless.
The first twenty minutes of the movie are in Bogey's first-person perspective, so we get the unique pleasure of being addressed directly by Miss Bacall for a little while. Bogey gives a very good performance, especially after his character has had plastic surgery and is unable to speak.
When he discovers a friend has been murdered, his eyes convey more remorse than words ever could. The killer's identity and the climactic confrontation are also handled very well.
