Review of Dark Night of the Scarecrow (1981) by Grayson W — 16 Jan 2015
This movie has one major problem that simply cannot be ignored, and that is the shocking lack of a scarecrow. It's implied to be a scarecrow throughout, but you don't get a good look at him until the final seconds of the film.
I'm all for ambiguity and dread, but I watched this movie to see some scary scarecrow action, not Hitchcockian suspense. To be fair, the suspense does work really well and there is a great sense of mystery and dread throughout, that's just not why I watched movie.
The story is more thought out than expected, if not oddly grim with its Of Mice and Men style opening. Overall, not a bad horror movie, just maybe not what I wanted it to be.
