I wouldn't think Dark Days would be recommended for those who are squeamish or claustrophobic. With that said, I haven't seen many documentaries that have had the ability to showcase its subject matter so literally yet so effectively. I can always appreciate true documentaries of this style, in which the filmmaker stays silent instead of copping out by narrating to us whether by a preachy voiceover or with equally preach words on screen what we should think.

What made this film particularly interesting to me is the fact that I'm strangely attracted to such things as abandoned buildings, underground cultures, tall tales of things kept from the public etc. (basically anything found in those Weird US books). Now, I would never have the courage to step into these haunted structures but that doesn't stop me from checking out videos of them on YouTube.

In Dark Days the rats, crack addicts, food foraging scenes, even a little morbid comedy and the abundance of heartbreaking stories from the homeless residents of the Freedom Tunnel steal the show and sticks with the viewer with an indelible mark.
