Review of Dark Country (2009) by Shedrick F — 06 Feb 2010
A little seen thriller from actor Thomas Jane.
For his first directing venture, Thomas has dipped his spoon into various filmmaking methods and genre's to make a confusing dark film noir that is so obviously influenced by better and more interesting films of the past.. Whilst the photography is distinct and unusual (a large part of this picture was filmed in the studio with green screens) I felt there was a distinct lack of substance behind it all. Style over substance I'm afraid..
A flawed but fascinating first outing for Thomas, and with better material and a bigger budget he may be a filmmaker worth keeping an eye on in the future, but don't give up the day job just yet.
