Review of Dark Corners (2006) by Tristan P — 23 Jun 2008
If Dario Argento had directed JACOB'S LADDER, it probably would have turned out like this. And like most of Argento's films, many elements of DARK CORNERS (dialogue, music, editing, etc.) are cheesily melodramatic, so much so that the film occasionally veers dangerously close to self parody. It's saved, however, by Thora Birch's excellent performace(s), it's unpredictability (unlike THE SIXTH SENSE, you don't guess the ending fifteen minutes in...) and a general nastiness.
Certainly not for everyone, and not even for all horror fans, but I really enjoyed it.
