Review of Daredevil (2003) by John P — 19 Mar 2016
When I mean okay, I actually mean mediocre because this takes the godamn fruitcake. I remember this movie being so hyped up at a time where the X-Men & Spider-Man movies where breaking box office records so the people at Marvel thought, "Hey, we're on a roll here. Let's see what other comic book hero we can put onto the big screen." And sure enough, Daredevil was the next big thing only to be the disappointed by millions of fans.
So the movie is about a lawyer named Matt Murdock who became blind as a child by chemicals only to have all of his other senes heightened a thousand fold. So he embarks on using these powers for good becoming the masked vigilante known as Daredevil. Along the way he takes on a one of the biggest criminal masterminds in New York City, the Kingpin and his most deadliest assassin Bullseye.
This movie had so many set backs right from the get go. Mostly from the 'dynamic' married duo of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner and their on character relationship with each other made it all the more disatisfying to watch. There was also this one scene at the beginning of the movie where Daredevil has a flashback which I thought was unnecessary and pointless. But with so much crap in this film, there was also some gleaming spots of goodness in here. Both Michael Clarke Duncan and Colin Farrell were spot on perfect with their roles as Kingpin and Bullseye and there were cameo's in here from past Daredevil comic book writers that put a smile on my face everytime I saw them. Overall, this wasn't that good of a film but still fun to watch if you have no other DVD's in your house.
