Review of Danny Collins (2015) by Rob H — 04 Apr 2015
This movie is what you think it's going to be, and that's a good thing. Director Dan Fogelman knows when to get out of the way and just let his actors be. And there's enough "reality" injected into the proceedings to keep the whole thing from being saccharine.
Annette Benning and Christopher Plummer are old pros. Jennifer Garner will make you wonder why you don't see more movies with Jennifer Garner. And then of course, there's Pachino, holding everything together with a performance that is one part Billy Joel, two parts Elton John.
In another life, this movie would be spanking the Fast and Furious 7 this weekend because it's a movie of substance: family, redemption, celebrity and paying the bills. There would be OSCAR talk and lauded performances all around. But we live in today's world, so my advice is to see it while you still can.
